Community-Based Sociological Research

Approaching our work through the lens of asset-based community development practices, I and a group of five other graduate students, along with our professor, spent 150 combined hours in the Curtis Bay and Brooklyn neighborhoods of Baltimore, MD. There, we worked alongside community-based nonprofits to complete the following research projects:

  • Literature review of youth workforce development programs including best practices

  • Quantitative survey and analysis of community needs and opinions on how to repurpose a former bank building

  • Qualitative interview and thematic analysis of youth participants in a workforce development program

  • Logic model of the Baltimore Builders program

My main contributions to the project were leading the logic model project and thematic analysis of the interviews, as well as playing a major role in the survey data cleaning, recoding, and analysis using SPSS.
